References to Modernism, Postmodernism
The purpose of modernism was to be more functional rather than form. In context of Helvetica, it functions to present information as clearly as possible and “shouldn’t be expressive”.

- most neutral typeface
- with no meaning in the typeface
- meaning in the context

Why did Helvetica become so popular? WHat are your opinions about this? Do support its popular uses?
Throughout the documentary, there are different influential graphic designers talking about their opinions on Helvetica and it typeface functions in the modern contemporary world.
Helvetica is a plain and simple typeface that is legible for everyone and is a good choice of typeface used for pretty much everything. The typeface has no serifs which makes it look contemporary compared to old-looking typeface like the Sans Serif.
Because of the neutral characteristics of Helvetica, it is widely used in company logos, advertisements, and marketing materials to catch consumers' attention while staying simple.

I really like how the typeface has no personality. Another way of describing the typeface, I would say it is neutral looking. The reason is mainly because of the spacings between each letter and how each stroke is being curved and angled. The neutral looking typeface is definitely worth being that popular as it could be used anywhere with any purpose. While Helvetica is being widely used for different purposes, it can spread the idea of modernism at the same time and more people will know about the idea of modernism.
What do you think about the “role” of the designer after listening to the speakers in the documentary?
Designers are to create a visual outcome that acts as a communication tool between the idea creator and audiences. Like the Helvetica typeface, it is designed to communicate and translate ideas to the public.
